The BBPA’s new Statistical Handbook reveals that British drinkers are now consuming 13 per cent less alcohol than in 2004 making for the biggest fall in alcohol consumption in 60 years. This was the fourth annual decline in five years and UK consumption remains below the EU average. This news follows the BBPA’s claim that a fairer tax on beer could create 30,000 jobs in the industry. The BBPA’s chief executive Brigid Simmonds commented, “These figures will confound many pundits, as yet again they confirm that as a nation, we are not drinking more. Those who suggest otherwise need to focus on the hard facts.” |
According to the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA), and contrary to what the news stories would lead us to believe, the UK is actually drinking less!
